Connect #25 celebrates growth, community and achievement across Mulberry

This summer term has seen schools across our Trust celebrate a wide range of achievements, opportunities and moments of success, showcasing the talent, ambition and commitment of our students, staff and wider community.

Mulberry Schools Trust has recently made an important step in the growth of our East Sussex Hub, with Mulberry Bexhill Academy becoming the sixth East Sussex school to join the Trust. We are excited to continue strengthening connections between our schools and continue to create opportunities for students and staff to collaborate and learn from one another. Over the past term, CEO Alice Ward visited schools across the Trust and was proud to see the fantastic work taking place across our school communities.

There has been plenty to celebrate across our schools, from students taking part in our Mulberry Changemakers programmes in STEM and the arts, to sporting successes, student leadership opportunities and achievements recognised at a national level.

We are also delighted to share the landmark moment of an ‘exceptional’ Mulberry College of Teaching Ofsted inspection, as well as proudly celebrating five years of our East London Teaching School Hub.

This edition of Connect brings together some of these stories, highlighting the experiences that take place every day across our Trust, from inspiring classroom practice, learning and creative opportunities to partnerships that help broaden horizons for our young people.

Together, these achievements demonstrate the dedication and ambition that runs through our schools and the commitment of our communities to helping every student thrive.

Celebrating our Free Fruit & Veg Programme with a visit from Tesco and JB Gill

On Monday 1 June we were delighted to welcome Tesco and JB Gill from JLS to Mulberry Baird Primary as part of a special visit celebrating the Free Fruit & Veg programme and recognising the incredible work staff do to support children’s wellbeing every day.

The visit showcased the positive impact the programme is having across our school community, helping to ensure pupils have access to healthy food throughout the school day and encouraging positive attitudes towards healthy eating from an early age.

During the morning, visitors saw a range of activities taking place across the school, including creative classroom learning linked to fruit and vegetables and students making fresh fruit kebabs. Staff and pupils also had the opportunity to speak about the importance of healthy lifestyles and the difference the programme is making for children at Mulberry Baird Primary.

We are incredibly proud to provide our pupils with the healthy fuel they need to thrive, learn and succeed each day, and it was wonderful to share the positive work taking place across our school community.

The visit forms part of Tesco’s wider work celebrating schools and staff who go above and beyond to support children’s wellbeing, with coverage expected to feature nationally across print and social media.

We would like to thank Tesco for visiting our school and supporting such an important initiative.

The Baird Primary Academy is delighted to announce a significant achievement by one of their exceptionally talented young artists, Cassia. Her remarkable piece, “Doggo Lisa,” has been selected for display on the prestigious Royal Academy’s Young Artists website.

This recognition is a testament to Cassia’s creativity, dedication, and skill. The academy is incredibly proud of her accomplishment and are excited to see her talent celebrated on such a prominent platform.

The Baird Primary Academy has been awarded the prestigious Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM). This accolade recognises the academy’s commitment to excellence in science education and the significant strides made in enhancing science capital and scientific enquiry within the school.

The PSQM assessor praised The Baird Primary Academy’s submission, stating, “This submission was a delight to read. I am particularly impressed with the level of development that has taken place around science capital and science enquiry. Such a lot has been achieved in such a short time. There has clearly been a great deal of hard work and effort dedicated to science. I have no issues with recommending that The Baird Primary Academy and all the staff and pupils are duly awarded a Primary Science Quality Mark! Well done to you all but especially Roz Adie, Anna Baker, and Trudy Wilson for leading science in such an impressive way!”

The academy is especially proud of the comments regarding their approach to scientific enquiry. The PSQM report highlighted, “The principles document highlights the importance of scientific enquiry at The Baird Primary Academy. Equiry is now at the heart of every lesson. This has been achieved through a variety of approaches including teacher CPD, signposting to relevant websites and creating a shared vision. Roz Adie has ensured current best practice has been incorporated into all science planning documents and progression is planned from nursery to Y6. The impact of this is that both enquiry types and skills are clear to all staff meaning that both teaching and learning are focused. The development that has taken place for this criterion is impressive.”

Carly Welch, Principal at The Baird Primary Academy, expressed her delight, saying, “We are delighted to be awarded the PSQM as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team at The Baird. The excellent professional development, delivered as part of this programme, has enabled teaching in science to progress significantly, offering our pupils engaging opportunities to explore science and draw conclusions based on scientific reasoning. We look forward to further working as a team to enhance scientific opportunities.”
